To match this "blood bag thermometer", KAGER offers a small benchtop incubator device that heats twelve labels to a temperature of up to 42°C within 60 seconds. This is done before a blood preserve is dispensed or removed and has two effects: on the one hand, a thermosensitive liquid crystal in the indicator is activated, and on the other hand, a control symbol in the shape of a blue cloverleaf appears on the display scale. This signals to the user that the KAGER Hemo Temp II is ready for use, and this is applied to the cool or cold blood bag immediately before dispensing. The measurement process starts now, and the scale quickly shows whether the current temperature of the bag is between 1-3°C or 4-6°C or 7-9°C. While the Celsius display is reversible – i.e. resets – the shamrock symbol is irreversible – i.e. permanent.

The blood bag thermally validated in this way can go on its journey. If it returns unused, the recipient must first check whether the cloverleaf control symbol still shows blue. If this is the case, the KAGER Hemo Temp II can be easily removed and the bag replaced in the refrigerator. However, if the cloverleaf symbol has disappeared or turned grey, this is a clear indication that the temperature of the blood bag has exceeded the limit of 10°C during transport. The blood preserve is therefore unusable and must be withdrawn from circulation.
