KAGER supplies measuring strips for thermal validation of blood preserves

The product range of the KAGER Medical Line (KML) covers numerous applications for medical technology, pharmaceutical logistics, everyday hospital life and laboratory work. The Hemo Temp II indicator is specially tailored for quality assurance and validation of blood preserves. The scale of this self-adhesive measuring strip visualises whether the core temperature of a blood bag was maintained or exceeded during transport and storage.

Dietzenbach, February 2026. – In the KAGER Medical Line (KML) industry-specific catalogue, private and public buyers from the medical technology, hospital and pharmaceutical logistics sectors will find a large selection of useful products and aids for temperature and limit value monitoring, as well as for supply chain and packaging control. Thermal indicators, whose scales visualise the exceeding or falling below certain temperature values, play a major role here. The Hemo Temp II measuring strip, which is equipped with a four-part display scale, is explicitly designed for temperature monitoring of blood preserves and blood preparations. It can be used to document in a very simple way whether or not a plastic blood bag has exceeded the core temperature of 10°C during transport. The KAGER Hemo Temp II indicator is therefore used for quality assurance and validation of blood preserves after they have been removed from refrigeration or cold storage. This makes it a helpful tool for blood donation and blood processing facilities.

Four-part display scale with knockout criterion

To match this "blood bag thermometer", KAGER offers a small benchtop incubator device that heats twelve labels to a temperature of up to 42°C within 60 seconds. This is done before a blood preserve is dispensed or removed and has two effects: on the one hand, a thermosensitive liquid crystal in the indicator is activated, and on the other hand, a control symbol in the shape of a blue cloverleaf appears on the display scale. This signals to the user that the KAGER Hemo Temp II is ready for use, and this is applied to the cool or cold blood bag immediately before dispensing. The measurement process starts now, and the scale quickly shows whether the current temperature of the bag is between 1-3°C or 4-6°C or 7-9°C. While the Celsius display is reversible – i.e. resets – the shamrock symbol is irreversible – i.e. permanent.

The blood bag thermally validated in this way can go on its journey. If it returns unused, the recipient must first check whether the cloverleaf control symbol still shows blue. If this is the case, the KAGER Hemo Temp II can be easily removed and the bag replaced in the refrigerator. However, if the cloverleaf symbol has disappeared or turned grey, this is a clear indication that the temperature of the blood bag has exceeded the limit of 10°C during transport. The blood preserve is therefore unusable and must be withdrawn from circulation.
