At the Biofach 2019, Schümann will look at the analogy between contents and packaging

Increasing numbers of manufacturers and suppliers of organic and natural products are discovering the gummed tapes from Schümann to be the perfect closing product for their cardboard packaging. The reason why is clear: the environmentally-friendly packaging tapes that are made from paper and potato starch enable the consistent implementation of the principle of sustainability in terms of packaging technology. They are completely authentic and make a key contribution to the consistent eco-balance of the product packaging. In hall 6 of the upcoming Biofach / Vivaness trade fairs, which are taking place simultaneously from 13-16 February 2019, Schümann will be providing an overview of its wide-ranging selection of reinforced and unreinforced gummed tapes.

Stadtallendorf, January 2019. – The Biofach / Vivaness trade fairs, which take place simultaneously in Nuremberg, have become a meeting place for manufacturers of natural products and sustainable packaging products. Schümann – one of the leading manufacturers of packaging tape for cardboard packaging, bags and sacks – has also been attending this sector forum for several years. In 2019, the key focus of its trade fair programme is to be on the presentation of its environmentally-friendly gummed tapes for the tamper-proof and dust-tight closure of cardboard packaging made from cardboard and solid board packaging. These adhesive tapes made from paper and potato starch are increasingly popular with the manufacturers and suppliers of natural and organic products, as in technical material terms, they integrate flawlessly in comprehensively configured eco-balances. The overall picture is therefore harmonious: from the product to the cardboard packaging up to the packaging tape, everything is therefore "organic". From the perspective of most end-consumers, this analogy of the contents and packaging also increases the trustworthiness of the natural products.

For light and heavy packaging consignments At its trade fair stand 281 in hall 6 of the Biofach, Schümann will be giving an overview of its wide range of gummed tapes. In addition to its selection of unreinforced packaging tape for light and heavy packaging, the company will be showing the reinforced packaging tapes from its Green Line range, which are recognisable with their green roller sleeve. These include, for example, the Green KF/KF2 gummed tapes for the dust-tight and tamper-proof closure of medium-weight cardboard packaging, as well as the Green MAX7 version which is especially suitable for the closing of heavy packaging. All the gummed tapes in the Green Line range have reinforced filaments that are made from natural raw materials. In this respect, the layer of filament is consistently integrated in the gummed tapes so that the cardboard packaging is further stabilised with the application of the packaging tape. This is a factor which is of considerable importance, especially in terms of the outer packaging, which is used for glass, bottles and other fragile products.

In addition to this stabilising factor, the gummed tapes from Schümann provide the cardboard packaging with a high degree of safety against tampering and unauthorized opening. The reason why is also very ecological. This is because the natural glue of the paper strips, which is based on potato starch, creates an inseparable material composite seal with the corrugated cardboard or carton of the packaging immediately after its application. The seal can only be opened if it is destroyed – which is the privilege of the correct recipient only. If the packaging is opened by unauthorised hands during its transportation, however, it is clear that tampering has taken place. The natural glue of the gummed tape is activated through the sparing moistening with water; environmentally harmful chemical additives are not used. The application can take on a manual or automated basis.

Natural through and through

Notwithstanding the reinforcement filaments made from natural raw materials and a natural glue coating on the basis of potato starch, let us consider the base material of the gummed tapes: the Kraft paper. At this point, Schümann provides the frequent assurance that this paper is only manufactured from wood which originates from sustainably managed forests in the EU. And if the top side of the packaging tape is to be printed with text, logos or ID codes in the company's print service, water-soluble inks will be used only. The gummed tapes can be disposed of and recycled together with the used cardboard packaging.

At present, there appears to be no other comparable packaging tape available on the market which is both as environmentally friendly and efficient throughout its product life cycle as the unreinforced and reinforced gummed tapes from Schümann are.
