For most manufacturers and suppliers of organic and nature products, these days it is a matter of course that they also choose their packaging products according to the criteria of sustainability and environmental compliance. For the closing of cardboard packaging, the gummed tapes from Schümann have proven their worth. From 15th until 18th February 2017, the highly acclaimed company will be presenting its kraft paper and natural potato starch adhesive products at the Biofach trade fair in Nuremberg.

Stadtallendorf, December 2016. – Manufacturers, retailers and online distributors of organic food products or natural cosmetics who want to convince their customers also have to incorporate the factors of sustainability and environmental compatibility in the packaging of their products. This can be achieved easily and at low cost with the use of packaging made from corrugated or solid cardboard which is then closed using the gummed tapes from Schümann. After all, this traditional packaging tape–which has also been used for several decades–consists of renewable raw materials, and when used in combination with the cardboard packaging, it results in an absolutely exemplary eco-balance. There are two principal reasons for this: For the adhesive coating of its gummed tapes, Schümann uses an adhesive which is extracted from potato starch, while for the tape material, it uses kraft paper, the production of which exclusively originates from sustainably-managed forests in the EU.

The beauty of potato starch adhesive

In hall 6 (stand 275) at the Biofach 2017, the company will be demonstrating how the application of its packaging tapes is also both simple and environmentally friendly. This is because the manual or automated bonding of the paper tape to the cardboard packaging is completed with the straightforward addition of a little water, and without the use of any chemicals or environmentally harmful additives. If the top side of the gummed tape requires printing with logos, ID codes or text, then Schümann uses water-soluble inks only. The paper tapes can also be disposed of and recycled together with the used cardboard packaging, without the need for time-consuming separation. In short: no other comparable packaging tape is currently available on the market which is as sustainable and economical throughout its product life cycle as the packaging tape from Schümann, with its potato starch adhesive coating. To highlight the attributes of its environmentally friendly products and to bring a little humour to the proceedings, the Schümann stand in hall 6 of the Biofach trade fair will also be featuring an oversized potato on a fork.

Also suitable for heavy-duty cardboard packaging

Schümann currently offers a wide range of sustainable gummed tapes with potato starch adhesive. In addition to its unreinforced standard packaging tapes for lightweight cardboard packaging, its Green Line range – which stand out with their green core – is where you will find reinforced varieties. These include the reinforced Green Max7 for exceptionally heavy duty packaging, and the Green K2/KF2 gummed tape for medium-weight cardboard packaging, which is both dust tight and provides safety against tampering and unauthorized opening. All of the reinforcement yarns used in the Green Line range are made from natural raw materials and applied on the basis of a special geometric balance, so that they lend the cardboard a high degree of stability.

For many manufacturers and for the e-commerce distributors of organic and natural products in particular, the factor of stability is equally as important as safety against tampering and unauthorized opening. In this respect, the key plus point of the gummed tapes from Schümann is that the natural potato starch adhesive bonds firmly with the surface of the cardboard packaging within a few seconds, making trace-free opening practically impossible.
